Nuffield Foundation

In 2011, we participated in the Science Bursary Programme for School an Colleges funded by the Nuffield Foundation.

A Six Form student Deborah Asante spent 1 month in the lab studying a new haem protein within the project "Free radical formation in cytoglobin".

Deborah has had a taste of a range of laboratory techniques, such as preparing buffer solutions, using spectrophotometer for protein concentration determination, making EPR samples by two methods (one of which was the Rapid Freeze Quenching), performing EPR spectra measurements on the EPR spectrometer.

She was also involved in data analysis and in writing up of a project in a scientific paper format. She finally reported her results in a one day conference hold at The Marshall Group site near Cambridge.
